And you can too

On any given weekly call my grandmother sounds upbeat. She keys me in on all the goings on at her senior building. You wouldn’t think seniors could be up to so much “trouble” lol.

No matter what’s going on in her life she makes a way to always smile and be kind. Last year was tough for her. Losing her youngest daughter and younger brother within a month or two. Still, she kept on.

How, at 87 does she find a way to smile and laugh?

I’ve thought about it. Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Gratitude

Her apartment is the first living space she’s had on her own. After becoming a widow, she moved back in with her parents. And took great care of them both, until they passed. Now with no one to look after but herself, she’s free to just live and be.

Small things

Tv, ginger snaps, and her new Alexa are just a few of the small things she enjoys on a daily basis. It doesn’t take much to please her. The smallest of things make her happy. Heat in the winter, a/c over the summer, a nice pot of cabbage and cornbread she’s prepared make her feel on top of the world. Oh and a phone call from her favorite granddaughter too.
