What is your superpower?
Every now and then a parent is reminded how well they’ve parented. Take my twenty year old son for instance.
A fellow classmate asked him how he does what he does. Why he is the way he is. For context, my son doesn’t curse, drink, or smoke.
It was a question he wasn’t sure how to answer. Not doing those things comes natural to him.
When I asked what his response was, he had this to say, “It’s the way I was raised and it’s also a choice.”
Not only did he credit his dad and I for how we raised him, he also acknowledged himself. This is confirmation we can be who we want to be. The power is always in our hands.
He went on to say that she hadn’t known many guys who were like him, and was inspired by him. His roommate has even calmed down on his language due in part to my son. He’s been inspired.
Everyone has a talent, gift. Most call it just that; a gift. I like to call it our superpower — the thing we do without thinking with the possibility of admiration and inspiration.
For my son, the way he carries himself is his superpower. The light he has within him that draws people to him without his notice, is his super power.
Ask yourself, what is my superpower?
Is it kindness? Patience? Art?
Whatever it is lean in it. Live in it.
This is why one must never follow the crowd. Stay the course. Be who you are. You never know who’s watching and gaining inspiration.
