The truth about therapy
Every human being has control over their life. The reality is, most don’t realize this and even fewer take accountability and action.
A conversation with my son’s barber reminded me of this. That we can decide to get help. Break generational curses.
The revelation of him in therapy once a week, warmed my heart.
“It’s helping,” he said.
One misconception about therapy is that it heals you. Therapy in itself is not healing, rather a gateway to healing. Self work in conjunction with effective therapy places us on the path to healing.
It provides insight, a seeing things from someone else’s perspective previously not considered. Done with intention, therapy can open our world up to new information, knowledge and wisdom.
We can receive professional advice — privately. Ponder open ended questions from someone unbiased to come up with our own conclusions and solutions.
Getting therapy is recognizing there’s something happening bigger than yourself.
“Some things in childhood I had to deal with…..,” he said while shaking his head, voice tapering off. “I don’t want to do the things they did,” he said in speaking on his family.
I praised him for being self aware and having the strength to get assistance.
Because not all of us do.
