Stop Taking The Fun Out Of Writing
And rethink on why you began in the first place
Over the past few months I’ve seen more posts about how much money or lack there of is being made here. Views, reads, have declined and writers are taking their words to other platforms.
I remember a when Medium was an unpaid platform. I stumbled upon Medium on an internet search. Read an insightful post by a writer’s battle with depression, was hooked and decided to join.
Writers were writing their hearts out before being paid. The more I perused the site, the more I fell in love with the diverse articles by some of the most talented and smart writers I’d read from.
Then the Partner Program came along. Writers were able to monetize their work. The gripe with some writers with small followings was that they weren’t able to capitalize on their popularity (if well known), or like writers who had amassed huge followings who were now writing for some of Mediums largest publications.
With every era of Medium, there has been complaints. Algorithms change, the Top Writers see a decrease in analytics, money decreases, then off they go.
No one writes to make it to the top to see a decline in views. So I can understand when…
