Social media fast? This may help instead.

A quick tidbit for mindfulness

If you’re anything like me, the screen time notification on your phone gets ignored. Funny thing is I don’t remember setting it. Maybe its a default setting on the iPhone.

Despite seeing my daily screen averages increase or stay the same, the realization of not getting real value from some accounts I follow, led me to a certain thought.

Mental health and the effects of social media have been hot topics the past few years now. Some proclaim to go on a social media fast or detox. Others have opted to delete their accounts entirely.

Here’s what I propose: unfollowing or muting accounts that no longer align with what you’re on, now.

A way to look at social media is like therapy. We get therapy for a certain period of time to get off it. Not stay on it forever.

Going through a rough patch? Follow positive, uplifting meme accounts to get a daily word in. But once on the other side, its okay to unfollow and move on.

Have a focus for who you’re following and for what purpose. Don’t worry about FOMO or follower loyalty. There’s an unfollow button for a reason.

If we were to be honest, we are all following a number of people who no longer serve us. For me, some post so much of the same stuff it becomes annoying and redundant. I’ve gotten the lesson and moved on now. Unfollow.

The key here is to refocus your follows. Clean sweep of every account you have outgrown or doesn’t serve you.

Unfollow, replace. Rinse and repeat.

Don’t be nosy.

Curiosity killed the cat and also kills your time.
