Self love is more than a caption

Let’s get right to it. Because I can’t be the only one who’s thought this.

How many times, have we wondered if a person really loves themselves, based on their selfie with a caption about self-love?

They’re looking their best. Makeup done. Hair did, nails did.

Or, they’re showing their new bodies twenty pounds lighter.

I’d like to believe them. It looks and sounds good that they have “self-love”. And sincerely I hope they do.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, is that self love is easy to say, yet hard to put into practice.

Outward maintenance is a sliver of the self love pie. Internally, we must feel it, believe it. So when we’re tested, we don’t repeat the same mistakes behind closed doors.

The ex can never come back because we’ve shut the door on the fear of being alone. People can no longer disrespect us because we speak up for ourselves and put them in check. The weight doesn’t come back because we’re disciplined on the foods we put in our bodies.

Self love is more than a caption or hashtag. Self love is a becoming into one self fully. Acknowledging missteps of the past, living in the present, while planning your future.

You don’t love yourself because you say it. You love yourself because you know love; true love. And give it to yourself daily online or not.
