Real Spill: The Renaming of Tity Boi/2 Chainz
We can all rebrand ourselves
For some of us, childhood nicknames forever stick. Amongst family, friends from the old neighborhood, whatever that nickname was despite growth, it’s something we will always be known by.
Such is the case for rapper 2 Chainz. Tity Boi, a childhood nickname given to him by his mother, was his stage name during his early career.
When asked about his name change, one reason was that 2 Chainz was more “family friendly”. I take this to mean more marketable.
Its been about ten years since he officially took the stage name 2 Chainz, and the renaming has paid off.
In 2022, 2 Chainz is a co owner of two seafood restaurants, Escobar Restaurant and Tapas, and is the new Head of Creative Marketing for fast food franchise Krystal. Couple that with his purchasing of homes in Los Angeles and Atlanta, his musical output including touring and merchandising, he’s come a long way from being primarily known as a mixtape rapper.
The uptick derived from renaming and rebranding himself. It is what catapulted his popularity along with strong work ethic to the success he enjoys today.
My question is: How can you rebrand yourself?
