Real Spill: Practice, Practice, Practice
Basketball is life’s greatest teacher.
-Kobe Bryant
One of the greatest basketball players on Earth was able to translate the sport he played to real life to a tee.
From his own interviews to peers speaking on his work ethic, one thing was constant — to be the best one must practice incessantly. It wasn’t uncommon to hear teammates and opponents speak on how he’d practice one shot for three hours.
That is dedication.
Relating this to real life I’ve come to realize, the same holds true for whatever we endeavor in life. Whatever we want to become better at we must practice.
Not the infamous Allen Iverson press conference practice. We’re talking about practice. No, real practice. The kind with the intention to become better. To perfect something.
Self awareness has shown me my weaknesses. Impatience, short temperedness, for examples. These are even more challenging depending on whom I dealing with. Especially the ones who can’t be entirely avoided (co workers, family, etc).
I’ve learned what I can do, is practice how I want to respond or think in certain situations. I can practice daily having more patience, tolerance with people in general. I can practice extending grace. I can practice being more loving and kind. I can practice self care by way of prayer and meditating more each day.
Practice, practice, practice.
It’s not just for athletes, musicians, writers, or artists.
It is for all 7.7 billion of us to make this world and our existence in it, a better place.
