The bounce back

The greatest feelin

When they thought that you was finished

-Nas

Every hip hop fan thought Nas was finished when Jay Z released his diss song, “The Takeover”. After two subpar albums (I Am, Nastradamus) not much had been heard from the Queensbridge MC until that song. Nas shot back with, “Ether”, and just like that a sleeping bear had been woke.

Fast forward to now and Nas is arguably at his lyrical best. Collaborating with producer Hitboy, for his latest three albums in Kings Disease I, II, and Magic have Nas in what he calls, “rare form”.

The downs in his career are well documented. From the Jay Z beef entangled with his daughter’s mother, his well publicized divorce from singer Kelis, to rumored money issues, had many fans on blogs commenting on his Ls.

All that has since changed. His bounce back has been impeccable. Becoming an angel investor to early startups like Ring and Bevel, releasing music through his record label, Mass Appeal, and becoming a restauranteur through Sweet Chick.

Nas is a better artist and businessman at 48 than he was two decades prior.

And this is why you can never count someone out. Not even yourself.
