2020 was the first year I was introduced to Digit, the smart bank that budgets, saves, and invests for you, through someone I follow on Twitter. He dubbed it, ‘The Hidden Money Challenge’ where he encouraged his followers to download the app January 1, then check back in December to see how much had been saved.

I skipped out in ’20 because I didn’t see the tweet on a check in till mid summer. I wanted to begin at the beginning of the year.

So after some research on how it works, I downloaded the app, linked my checking account, and hoped for the best on January 1.

Here’s what the deductions for January looked like:

The total saved for January was $103.65. I didn’t have any set goals in place, so my savings is going into a rainy day fund.

What’s funny is Digit saved more for me than what I manually save for myself on pay days. At this rate by the end of year I should have around $1200 or so saved.

This for me justifies the $5/month membership fee after the first free month.

The extra chunk of change at the end of year with the holidays and my dreaded personal property tax due will come in handy.

So far, I’m pretty pleased with Digit and how it works.

Have you tried Digit or any other money app?
