“Mom, how do you know when a girl likes you?”
A question every boy mom should love to answer
If there’s one thing I never worried about with my eldest son was his ability to date when ready. What hadn’t crossed my mind was the question he asked, “How do you know when a girl likes you?”
At 21 he has yet to date. With a plethora of female friends, the assumption was he would just know when a girl held interest. The question was surprising, but welcomed. Here lied the perfect opportunity to give the truth from a woman’s perspective in a real, loving, and effective way.
“Well son, the short answer is when she reciprocates,” I replied.
“Hmmph,” he said in thought.
I went on.
“She probably won’t make the first move, but will give clues of interest. If she reciprocates the time, energy, and attention you give her, most likely she’s interested. And she will respect and value you as is.”
Our conversation continued. The more he engaged, the more insight I shared.
