A conversation with my son reminded me every college student isn’t as smart as you think
We all knew the smart kids in school. The honor students, geniuses, the ones voted most likely to succeed.
My oldest son could be thrown in that bunch. Very smart kid who did well in private school. Currently in his sophomore year in college, he speaks on how tough Chemistry is. Rumblings from other students who’ve taken the class say the same.
As an Electrical Engineering major, I tell him how the class load will become more challenging as he advances. Just a warning from my own recollection of fellow college mates majoring in engineering.
During my second year in college I got a job in the tutoring center that also housed the makeup exam room. It’s mighty funny how the conversation with my son, sparked the memory of how a certain group of students would take almost every exam as a makeup.
These students were taking a semester full of the toughest classes. I’m talking Organic Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Calculus I….etc.
Two workers were assigned in the room as watchmen. Students were not allowed to use any materials not checked by the instructor on the makeup exam slip. If they did, we were to make note on the slip the instructor would later collect with the exam.
